Our Projects

Columbiettes around the state of Connecticut are doing wonderful things in their parishes and communities.  State Columbiettes have projects that affect many people around our state.

Campership - The Connecticut State Campership Program was founded in 1985 to help citizens with intellectual disabilities and their families by offering an opportunity for summer enjoyment.  Campership is open to all Connecticut residents.  Campers have a chance to spend a week or two with their peers in a secure environment and enjoy activities designed especially for them, offering fun and learning at the same time.  Their families get a chance to have a change of pace, take a vacation, and enjoy a break from their usual routine.
In the beginning, this program was funded by the Columbiette auxiliaries and many developed new ways of raising money to support it.  On the State level, we now solicit memorial donations for the living and deceased and offer space for booster ads in our annual convention program booklet.  We receive donations from the Knights of Columbus annual Tootsie Roll Drive, The Knights of Columbus State Council, and the State Columbiettes Special Funds Program.  Many of which are presented at our annual convention.
It is with these gifts and the dedicated work of our members that we have been able to each year increase the number of special people who go to camp - an experience that can make a world of difference in their lives and that of their families.
We are celebrating 32 years of this program which began with two campers in 1985 and has grown each year providing 950 camperships to date.
We extend our thanks to the Knights of Columbus, all our auxiliaries and members, our sponsors, families, and friends who have throughout the years helped make this program such a tremendous success.
We are a Non-Profit organization that relies solely on business and personal donations.  Applications for camperships are available on September 20th and must be submitted by mail postmarked by February 14th of the following year.  These applications are available through any Columbiette Auxiliary.  You can also use the E-Mail Us link on the bottom left of the website for further information or an application.

Pop Tops for Ronald McDonald House - Ronald McDonald House is a haven for family members who have a child in the hospital.  Free lodging and emotional support are given at this crucial time.  We support the Ronald McDonald House by collecting the aluminum pop tops and delivering them for them to redeem.  Columbiettes from around the state bring their pop tops and together we have donated hundreds of pounds of pop tops to support this wonderful cause.

Shoeboxes for the Homeless - Columbiettes around Connecticut collect toiletries, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other basic items for homeless people.  They are put together in shoe boxes and distributed through Catholic Charities throughout the State.  At our 2017 State Convention, Columbiettes brought over 426 shoe boxes for people of all ages.  The recipients love them!  It takes a lot of work, but this caring ministry is loved by many.
